Took this from my back yard the other night. Worked on it in post to bring out detail would like some thoughts on the final product. Does the processing feel natural? Too much? Not enough?
Hi Doug, not knowing what settings you used to take your shot I'd say you may have over exposed a little. It is possible to capture a lot more contrast on the moon in a single frame. Don't get me wrong though, your post processing has do nothing to ruin the image at all. But under exposing a little more would have given the detail and contrast without too much work in post.
It's often not realized at first how bright the moon actually is, it is very bright. So next time try stopping down a little and try a little experimentation. Good luck.
The image is good for your first attempt. One of best things about digital photography is it give us the opportunity to review the image, utilizing and understanding the histogram. Most digital SLR provide you with the option of cropping any image before printing. In my opinion, if you crop the image tighter, this will give a greater impact. There is too much negative space on both sides of the moon. You want to fill the frame with the image you are capturing or displaying. Thank you for sharing this image. Keep shooting. This is whats makes us better photographers.
