Mike Taylor's picture

Seeking direction

Taking the initiative to try to establish a "style" of my own, I started a personal project that I call The Music Makers Portrait Project.
It involves the travel to and photographing of musical instrument makers all across the province.

I shoot them all in the same basic style of lighting and composition, which is loosely based on the paintings of Jan Vermeer. A simple set up with no more than two lights.

A bit of doctoring up later in LR and PS gives me the look I am after.

I've done 10 so far and am aiming to double that number by March of 2017 which would mark one year since starting.

My question is this, do any of you fine members see an obvious market for this sort of portraiture?

Your thoughts are much appreciated.

These are a great idea, Mike . I love portraits like these. My two cents - tone down the sharpening a little. The lighting and colours are so beautiful.

I like the sharpened look you're going for Mike. I like the middle picture the best because it has the most depth and the subject Pops from the background.I feel that in the other two pictures and you are not lighting the workshops in an interesting way. that is my only criticism. keep going - good luck Exclamation point
