The Sun Flower Hotel

We work with model Aline at the historic Sun Flower Hotel in the beautiful city Kiev, Ukraine. We try to utilize natural direct sun and we use a silk china 20x20 from the outside of the window.

We knew we want to get really high contrast and that is why we choose the most spot light available in the day which was at one clock.

This is a fashion shot

See how you can actually see what clothes the mode is wearing, important details about the cut, and how everything about the shot has been designed to make the jacket look good?

In your first shot the t-shirt looks terrible. It doesn't fit, it's rumpled, and you can't see any details of teh cut - not even whether it is a v-neck or round neck.

Your second shot is worse than that. It's not posed to show any details of the clothes. It's posed to say "I was in a room AND THERE WAS A GIRL WITH NO PANTS ON! LOOK AT HER LADY LEGGGS!!"

The problem here isn't that you are sexualizing fashion... But that these aren't fashion shots at all. If you want to shoot boudoir or glamour or pin-up, go have it. But what you are doing at the moment is extremely problematic and even unhealthy. It goes beyond using sexual attractiveness to sell clothes to women and into shots that are pure male gaze.

while this may sound harsh, i think it is indeed invaluable. cc like this should be taken as gold. i too learned something from it and this will help me grow in my fashion photography.
