Where the clients are?

Hi everyone, I'm part time self tough photographer and I love photographing fashion and portrait. As a newbie I would really appreciate any pointers on how to find and book a job with a client. Any suggestions or advises?

I would utilize facebook or instagram to find more clients, and get your name out there. Tag the models in the photos so their friends and family can see the shots as well.

I'd ask permission to tag, and thats if you got them as a facebook friend too. Who knows, the portrait may not be "Family Friendly" .

thank you Jonathan

Hey Vitaliy!

Nice seeing you here.

The answer to this really depends on the market you want to serve. If you want to shoot fashion, social media is pretty good at generating leads because those same clients are generally on there doing their own promotions. That said, all the catalog work I do has been found through networking the old fashioned way. Reaching out to designers and wholesalers.

As for portrait work, again, depends whose portraits you are taking. Family portraits? Target the woman of the house. Advertise where she will see it. Actors headshots? Try local acting classes and schools. Corporate portraits? Try business functions and local city events.

It is not easy at all, I will tell you that. But once you get the ball rolling, refferals are an amazing thing, and work will come your way on its own eventually. Its just getting to that part that is hard.

Hope that helps a bit.

thanks Peter, I guess my issue is that i need more time and time again :)
