Thomas Galante's picture

Not my typical, but trying to learn CC very welcome and appreciated

So I am just trying to expand my photography and try new things with some new gear. I don't venture outside of my comfort zone of portraits and landscapes often. So any helpful tips or techniques are greatly appreciated

Hi, Thomas -- Here are some things to play with to see if they make your image stronger:
* Keep all of that glorious hair in sharp focus rather than making the lower perimeter of it artificially blurry (whether that's masked Gaussian blur or a Lensbaby effect, it doesn't enhance the image)
* Play with having her actually do something with her hands rather than just laying there. And play with her arms doing something different from each other.
* Her ears are red. Was she embarrassed or otherwise uncomfortable? You can diminish that redness in post-production.
* I copied/pasted the image into Photoshop and rotated it 180 degrees so I could make sense of her expression and to remove the fear that her boobs were going to suddenly fall into the picture. What I saw was basically no emotion at all. So have her play with expressing different feelings--whatever she would feel if she were on a bed with her hair fanned out like that. Redheads are supposed to be highly spirited, right?

Have fun playing, you two!
