I am really interested in upping my headshot game, and I use myself as a model when trying out new lighting and approaches. I am certainly available and I figure if I can make me look good, anyone else will be a breeze! I also needed a new one for a conference I was speaking at.
My current self-imposed constraint is to use gear I already own, forcing a certain bit of resourcefulness. In this case, I used a Phottix Odin trigger, Mitros LL flash off camera in a 24x24 softbox, a 40" silver reflector for fill and a Sony flash with a Gary Fong snoot w/grid and Phottix trigger for a hair light. Best part: shot in my living room with no background, used 1/1250 sec shutter to make it go black. I actually wanted to use a white background, but the other speakers were using dark and I decided to fly In formation.... Shot with a Sony A6000 II Sigma DN 60mm Art @ f7. 1, and used Sony's Remote Control app to run the camera from a tablet.
Constructive criticism welcomed!
Image looks good Roger, well exposed and the hair light looks good. I think had you allowed the hair light to spill on your shoulders, it would have given a bit of rim light and created some separation between the jacket and the b/g, avoiding the "floating" look. Well done.
