Isreal Delike's picture

Smiles on red

This was my very first planned actor's headshot. I did a few research on this genre and after seeing what Dylan and Harley did, I got inspired. I shoot this with my canon 6D + Sigma 70-20mm 2.8 with a two light setup. The first light is a Jinbei HD 600 in a 90cm Selen bowel and the kicker was flashpoint RL-600.

It's got to be a MUST with american photographers NOT to keep the complete head and cut part of the scalp off. Just a notch higher and the lady's head would be complete without missing essential on the bottom.
Or - simply one step back.
The color balance is a bit too greenish in the yellows over here on my monitors.

Thank you very much Bernd, I learnt that crop from Dylan Patrick, lol. Well I cropped the top of the head out because it was windy that day and the hair on top was a little bit messed up, I must admit I'm not very good with hair but I'm still learning. Colours, hmm I must admit once again that I've not had it easy with colours, I struggle a lot with them, especially when it come to WB. But again I'm grateful for you constructive criticism.

Israel, if you use Capture One there is a free bunch of stepped white balance / tint Presets.

Ok Valdo,I used Capture one though.

Don't know which program you are using but in Lightroom you can adjust each color separately. Here I would adjust the hue of the yellow only towards red. Alternatively you can add a bit magenta that is the counter color to green.
I just downloaded you pic and added a bit magenta and it is perfect +10 in Lightroom.
Green unless on plants - is a warning color on skin or meat etc. for human beings it is programmed by ancient experience that such is unhealthy.

Poetic title, miserable composition.

Well noted sir, Still learning.

The expression is all about this image. I like it. One minor thing is the blue hotspot on the back of her hair. Other than that it's a great image.

Thank you very much Tihomir. I will look out for such mistakes next time and avoid them.

Good pose, she looks comfortable in front of the lends. Kind-of want to see her in the middle/right of the frame. good job.

Thank you, I tried it and it looks better.

Love it! Great image Isreal. Cheers

Thank you Bruce.
