My name is Daryl, I am 51, an ex Chef and have just completed a B.A hons in photography and am going on to do an M.A in film, photography & media. My aim is to eventually work on Unit Stills for movies and Tv and build a good reputation for myself and be happy. I need to learn more about headshots, both on set snatches and studio set up/outdoor and so I joined this group after looking at Peter Hurley's work and finding his style of working very much like my own in that I engage with people and try to get natural emotions. I hope that this group is able to give me constructive criticism and be completely honest with me so that I can improve and be a better photographer.
Cheers
Daryl
The lighting seems OK, but the camera appears to be a bit low and that framed art in the background is a distraction, IMO.
Overall pretty good, but I agree on that framed art. It breaks up the continuity of the portrait and distracts my eye. I'd like to see a hairlight high on camera left behind your subject. The top of her head seems to fall into the background. For women, I don't think you can go wrong with the Hurley 3-light setup he outlines here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxd8DYGcqfo
I also think she'd be happier with the shot if you Photoshopped that dark area above her right front tooth (camera left).
Hello, Darryl. I don't see your HSC profile. Do you have that up and running? Agree about the framed art. HSC/Hurley style headshots are all about expression and limiting distractions.
She's turned too much. You see the lines you made on her neck.
This is also very smiley. This is more happy than approachable.
