First attempt at Hollywood Noir

I recently made my first attempt at the traditional 'Hollywood Noir' style of portrait work. The image was shot via two Tungsten lamps, with a Fresnel lens and barn door.

Does anyone in the group have experience of this genre and could offer assistance in respect of further learning resources.

C and C welcome and much appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

this is good Lighting style..... but it would have more impact shot vertical with less background... if you had detail like a Street light or a Phone booth thats filled in detail in the Dark... but think Hollywood Poster..... Film Noir Brings the story to you and the Models needs to animate the shot emotionally... Fear... Derision... Hatred... Hopelessness... the emotions are dark not just the light... but overall its a good start... but in the future Think Hollywood Poster vertical and in tight unless you have A menacing Shadow ...a shadowy Light pole... a Phone booth... or a '39 chevy these need the same noir lighting ...Overall a Good start and Have fun

also pose the model slightly off center..... to give it a more Cinematic and less of a Portrait look

James: Very many thanks for your time, thoughts and assistance. Second attempt fairly shortly and I'm very, very grateful And I'll try editing the original shot. Best wishes, Doug

You'll get there... A great Photographer Doug Beasley said : "when you shoot you must see through your heart and not through your eyes"

Second that one for sure James.
