Hello from Nevada

I'm new to the Fstoppers community today! I've been learning phototgraphy for a few years and have started experimenting with headshots just this year. Here is a sample from my very first headshot shoot. It was shot outdoors, in open shade, with two speedlights and a reflector. I am always open to helpful critique. :)

Nice shot. Her expression is a little strange but it may make the image more interesting. I think you might appreciate slightly softer light by bringing your key light closer to your models face. The shadow by her nose and under her chin look fairly sharp. At the same time the catch light in her eyes is pretty big so I'm not exactly sure which type of modifier you used.

Hi Lee! Thank you for your comments. I was using a 24x24" softbox. Maybe it needed to be a little more forward?

Her expression here is a bit more fun. :)

I enjoy this more than the one below. Try not to shoot from above your subject at all, you want to keep the lens and camera on the same plane. Her expression is interesting, but could be stronger with a different body position as well, have your clients lean quite a bit forward towards the camera, this forces the client to "engage" as most people sit straight and a little back when they first sit down in front of a camera. had she been leaning a couple feet more forward I think it would have focused the expression more. Also get that softball in very close, it will give you an even softer light. Keep it up! You are on the right track for sure.
