Hey Mads
They're all very good shots. I am drawn more to the first and third images. I like the straight on pose.

The second third and fourth are winners for me! Great lighting balance and expressions man, well done!

My favorite shot is the straight on shot as well. The only thing I can think to improve it would for him to have stuck his forehead out a bit more but it's great as is. You have your lighting really dialed in, now just keep those killer expressions.

Thank you all, good to hear and also good to see there's some disagreements. I prefer the first one too, but agree with you Lee, that he could come a bit closer with the head. I'm a bit colorblind and I can't agree with myself if there's a little green colorcast in the shadows on the two in the top?

I think lighting is great- however it's the pose that's not working for me. He seems like he doesn't know what to do next. For me I like to forget about the photographic process, and really connect with the subject on a shoot. That way I can get the most genuine and powerful pose out of them with little adjustments here and there.

Ok Brendan, thanks for the feedback - it's my brother so I'd say we connect ;). But all this really proves to me how differently we all percieve human microexpressions and how hard it is to pose a person to please everybody and how hard it is to make a "powerful" headshot. But nice to know! How would you pose him? Would a little smile be better?

Like you just mentioned, "microexpressions". A smirk, using those eye muscles, etc. A pensive thought on his mind can be reflected in his expression. It's the small things like that that can change an image tremendously.
