First post. I'm pretty new to photography. I backpack a lot so I figured it would be a good skill to learn. Yesterday while looking for a wedding venue, I drove past a small creek. The sun was casting a nice glow, so I thought it would be a good time to try to learn some skills. Finally got what I thought was the best I could get. Did some work in Lightroom as well. Any tips on water pictures?
Hi Scot and welcome to the community. This image is pretty busy and that complicates how to deal with the flowing water. Some nit picky things are the twigs in the center of the frame, lower right and bottom center. I think it was time to get your feet wet and remove them or compose to eliminate them from the image. I see the story as the water and rocks. My best advise - as the color tones of the water and rocks are quite similar, is to process the image as a B&W. The color in this case is distracting.
Welcome Scot :) I'm not sure how feasible it would have been for you at the location, but if you had been able to position your camera so the tree branch and that curved thing on the bottom right weren't in frame (maybe the camera a little lower as well) it would be much better. And like Michael says, B&W.
Hi Scot, this photo is ok with general technics (long exposure) and post processing i mean color is ok. My main problem on this one is we dont get any context, like shot water with rocks ok but i need more to understand what you really want to show :) (just my opinion ;) )
Excellent input!! Thank you. I will go back to post and play in B&W.
