Paul Watt's picture

I tried something a little different today.

I'd love to say that I meant to get this kind of photo today but I'd have been lying - I forgot to bring my big stopper! Thoughts and CC as usual warmly welcomed.

I like the motion of the waves crashing against the pier. I don't really fancy the structure in the water :-)

Paul,
I'm with Mikkel on this. The structure does not do anything for me. It seems you like this structure though..... so my mind is thinking on a way to shoot it and make it interesting. Is it lit up at night? If so...a night shot might be interesting if you can separate it's lights from any background lights and get a starry sky or interesting moon. I'd use a long enough lens to get the lighted structure in the foreground lower third of the image with the sky taking the upper 2/3rds. just a thought...take it for what's worth.

Hi Mike,
I was hoping that the waves in the foreground would balance the image but I think I'm going to have to stop tilting at this particular windmill until I get some longer glass. I like your suggestion though, I've been thinking along very similar lines. Just waiting for the weather gods to OK my request lol

The waves are fantastic, but tis image would benefit more with out the structure

Don't give up, try a lower viewpoint - even if you have to lie on the ground - so that the structure is just above the level of the waves. Use a portrait format and keep the structure off-centre. Think part of the problem with this pic is the central positioning.
