I'm quite new to photography so taking what I say with a grain of salt is probably wise but I do have some questions that come to mind when looking at your image
Would shooting it vertically draw more emphasis to the scale of the rockfaces? What about getting a bit lower (it looks like it was shot from eye level???)? or maybe getting a bit closer to the rock in the middle of the river to use it as a stronger foreground element?
Just some thoughts.

Shooting vertically would draw emphasis on the height of the canyon walls, but to me the, width was more important. I've shot low in other photos at this location, but then you can't see the sky, which I wanted in the photo.

Your comments are good ones.

Because of the height of the canyon walls, you have to do the photographing when the sun is high in the sky, which can affect vertically shot photos.
