I was reading a post on instagram this morning from an awesome landscape photographer about how they were working out whether they were going to make Sunset or not on a massive drive to get there. I wonder if all of us landscape photographers run into the same trouble sometimes...
...On this particular evening, I had to drive 3hrs to get here, and left late waiting for a camera battery to charge. Getting here about 30mins later than I would have liked, the Sun had dipped below the hill, but hadn't actually set. The light coming through was awesome, and such a peacefully quiet moment as the 2 of us were the only people there.
This is a 6 image stitch, shot with my Sony A99 and Zeiss 16-35 lens in portrait mode using a Novoflex portable multi-row Pano head on a Benro tripod. There's been a bit of dodge and burn with the light, I'll own that. No false claims of lucky planes flying over head here at the right moment...
Very nice, no negatives from me really. I'm faced with a similar situation, I don't have a car so I'm stuck with public transport. I often end up shooting outside the golden hours, in harsh flat light but I've learnt how to adapt my compositions and post-processing to deal with it. I think it's made me a better photographer if I'm honest.
