Hi guys,
Posting from Romania here, I hope I'm not the only one. Anyways, I've photographed for some while now, I graduated the film school, passed throughout the most expensive equipment in the world, but - sometimes you need to remember a thing.
I'll get on that one later.
I stopped shooting, I stopped getting out in the city with my camera. That good feeling of a complex and good photograph you know you've just taken - is gone for me. I continued my film work (which is totally different from the photography universe) and the photo camera is lying - to this day, in the bag, waiting for something to happen.
One of the best advice I got when I was younger was related to all this equipment-world we have around us.
You know that advice sounds good - but you can't just apply it to yourself, it's harder than that. Photography is a constant battle happening in your mind, and sometimes fireworks may appear out of that chaos. But we have to thrive getting those fireworks burning, eh? And let's not forget about the 'there is no method. You are the method." very inspiring quote for your bad days.
So anyway, let's remember ourselves that all the perfect cameras we have around are nothing more than just tools.
Living in an full of cameras of all sizes imaginable, I pushed myself to understand the meaning of the 'tool' you use. So I started photographing with my iPhone. All that excellent Fuji gear home wouldn't help me get the right shot, but maybe a no-brainer tool would.
It's a long path, but the photography muscle -is- a muscle. And if you don't train it, it's gonna get smaller. So, baby steps. Results can be surprising sometimes.
Hi Norbert,
I think we all can relate. An IPhone is pretty far from basic though. An old film camera would serve you well....makes you really slow down and think. I keep my old Pentax MX around for times like this.
Best...Mike
