Brian Fabiano's picture

First post... Rip it apart!

Seriously, I'm new. Go easy.

Hey everyone,
Been photographing life for years, just never have taken it as serious as I am now.
I recently retired and am now focusing 100% of my efforts on travel / landscape photography.
I've been trying not to get overwhelmed with the diversity of landscape photographers and get out and shoot as much as possible to simply gain experience, there is so much to learn.
Looking forward to meeting others in the landscape world and being a part of the community.

Heres a recent pic from a trip to Grand Cayman that I feel is worthy to post for CC.

Let me know what you think

Would you happen to have any specs of the image (ISO, f-Stop, lens, camera, etc.)? Otherwise a very nice image.

Nikon D750, Nikkor 16-35mm F4 (shot at 16mm) F8, ISO 64. And thank you!

Hi Brian,
Nice image. No need to rip anything with this image but I have some suggestions to consider. The sunset and clouds are pretty nice. I like that the exposure length choice keeps a balance in the overall image texture. The selective lightening of the foreground rock and tree on the bluff seems a bit un-natural and catch my eye on uninteresting parts of the image....rather I would have lightened the water on the rocks as that is a very interesting part of the image.
Best...Mike

Michael,
Thank you for the feedback. It was a rushed shot that I caught right at sunset and it is a blended image. Unfortunately there was a street light on the right side that cast on the bush and water. I guess I could fix it a bit more. The rock is actually lighter on the "front" side, so it appears to be lit more. It was actually a lighter color. Im guessing from the waves hitting it.

For my taste its a bit over-processed and making it hard to enjoy. Makes it hard to focus on the overall composition. I can't tell if it was just caused by the dynamic range you combined into one or if you also went very heavy on a sharpening filter.

Ryan,
It does have a good amount of PP, and I did use Nik Collection sharpener. I appreciate the feedback.

I will have to agree with Ryan with a tad bit too much PP. But other than that not bad.
