Like all of you, I'm always looking for a unique picture to capture.
I live in New England, and although we have miles of picturesque coastline, these are all obvious and common pictures to be had. There are however many unique homes and properties here dating back hundreds of years, begging to be photographed.. Most of which are privately owned.
Now not stereotype New Englanders, but generally speaking we are not the most approachable people and like to stick to ourselves, so I thought simply knocking on the door would pressure people or not be the best way to start a conversation.
Having a marketing background, I came up with the following approach, which has given me great success so far.
I have numerous places lined up for spring shots already.
I mail them out a letter, explaining who I am, what I do, and why I like their property. I cover concerns they may have about it, and give them numerous ways to contact me to say ok.
To leave a lasting impression, I mail the letter with a disposable camera ($7) and tell them at the very least to enjoy it and print some pictures to hang on the fridge.
I've mailed 6, and have been contacted 5 times.
If anyone would like the template I use, shoot me an email.
