Charlie Waltho's picture

Need some harsh CC!

So I took this today. However I'm not entirely happy with it and I'm not sure why
I think its the processing and also the dead space on the left of the frame but if anyone else has some ideas that would be great!
I do have other compositions but this is the only edited one so far.

Thanks, Charlie

I've used this jpg so the quality isn't good but try to look my work:

I've made a real blue from the cyan at the mountains, crop with a ratio at 16:10 and powered the contrast...

I think that u need to go again and try another composition.... maybe less clouds (but bad weather like this is good) will looks better and cut some rocks let less stone on the photo looks more "zen" :)

It's only my thought! I like the location! :D

PS: Keep eye to the cromatic aberrations! ;)

Thanks Andrea! I see what you mean about the blues so ill have a tweak. Im going to work on some of the other compositions and see which is most zenny ;). Yeah the location is pretty spectacular as long as you get a break in the weather.

Also try with very long exposure ;D

Hi Charlie,
The rocks at the bottom have got to go IMHO. I like Adrea's crop a lot more. The image feels less weighted without those rocks. I would also try to get the composition where the remaining rocks are not so close to the edge of the image. Objects close to edges act as eye magnets which you don't want. I like the sky and reflection. There might be room to lighten up the hills across the lake and capture a bit of the detail there.
Hopefully not to harsh. Best...Mike

Hadn't even thought about the rocks! Thanks Michael.

I'm just not sure that the location itself, with the snow capped mountain being so far away, is that interesting. I love the reflection and the warm to cool colors but the sky and the brown left side of the frame aren't as interesting to me.

I see your point, I think ill try and find a closer lake. There are quite a few round here! Thanks Lee, big fan.

It's all been covered by the others here but I wouldn't write off this location just yet. I wonder if the camera was in portrait orientation with that group of rocks (that kind of look like a turtle swimming away on the right of the image) as the foreground and the mountain in the background. With the camera low to the ground it might make for an interesting composition.

I like that idea, Im going to head back when the weather lets up and try again! i have some portrait shots like that but there are too many rocks in the scene and I'm not really a fan of cropping. There is this one: Thanks Paul

You're welcome. If you used a longer lens and played with your camera angle you might be able to isolate one of those rocks. A high fstop like f/22 would keep everything in focus and only have minimal cropping. I'm just blue-skying here having never actually been to the location!

I think it would work, I will give it a go soon and upload the results!
