Just arrived back in Copehagen from a 6 days trip to Lofoten in Norway and on my way to the airport we had the most beautiful Aurora Borealis and also my 2nd time to witness this two days in a row.
I would love some feedback. I'm not really good at mastering night photos and I don't know what else I can do regarding this image in Lightroom. I don't master PS, but maybe I should learn how to use it and how to use masking.
But put some critique on the table!
wonderful image mikkel .. i love the drama in the sky but you could have done a lot more with the foreground .. it would have complimented the image more .. i like blending two shots in these kind of situations .. :)
Hi there. Thanks for the feedback :)
I know that I could have done some more to the foreground. I gave it a shot, but the ISO is 1600 so when I brighten the foreground it gets noisy.
I'm not sure how the aurora would turn out if I blended to photos with this composition. Im quite sure it would blure the Aurora and the "sharp" lines of it would disappear. I might be wrong though :)
i have tried light painting the foreground a couple of times once i was satisfied with the aurora .. :)
I agree with Yogesh, the foreground could use some lightening up. I know that when you start adding light to super dark areas, especially ones with a higher ISO you'll start to get a lot of noise. I HIGHLY recommend using one of the Google Nik Collection plugins called Dfine 2, it works wonders at cleaning up noise, I'd try using that and adding it in to your dark areas. And...lucky for you, Google just made the Nik Collection free as of a week ago! :) https://www.google.com/nikcollection/
Thanks Rex. I'll give it a try. Actually I already have the Nik collection but didn't know that Dfine could be used for cleaning noise :)
What do you think of this:
Dude! That shot is SWEET!!!! I am so jealous right now!!
And yes, check out Dfine for noise reduction, it's incredibly powerful for that. :)
Thanks man! I tried to use the circular filter in LR to make some depth to the image by lighting up the foreground a bit :)
I'll give Dfine a try!
What about this one?
