Antarctic Landscapes

There is very little air pollution in Antarctica, I think because it is so far removed from pollution sources and is not affected by northern jet streams. Atmospheric light altering is exclusively by moisture in the air. In the moonrise, the mountains and clouds are lit by the afterglow behind me. The sun has been down for more than a hour. In the image of the iceberg, the sun is touching the horizon. Note the light on the edge of the small ice flow in the foreground. Antarctica is a magnificent place to photograph startling scenery, and I will return soon. These were taken from aboard the National Geographic Explorer on a Nat Geo Photo Expedition in January, 2016.

This is a really great document, and the pictures are beautiful as well. Antartic is a very remote and difficult to reach area area. Thanks for sharing

Thanks, Stefano. Next month I'm going to South Georgia, which is 1000 km east of the Falkland Islands. I'll be there 8 days, photographing the scenery and lots of sea birds, including the Wandering Albatros, Giant Petrels and Storm Petrels (largest and smallest) as well as whales. I'll be there 8 days on a small ship, with lots of shore stops.

Great! Have a good travel
