Matthijs Bettman's picture

A bad day to be out hiking..

Can I have some CC on this photo? Are there any tips to make something like this better?

I think the masking between the top left mountain and the dark clouds could be polished a little bit better. Some highlights on the clouds seem too blown out to me. And also the blue/black sky doesn't not seem to match with the temperature of the foreground. Other than that, this angle and composition is pretty amazing. Nice work!

Thank you for your comment. I didn't do any masking (I haven't used PS on this image, only LR). I did used some graduated filters and some adjustmant brushes. I can see what I can do with the graduated filters in LR. I all ready checked the brushes, but that doesn't helped at all.
Let me see if warming up the sky blend the hole image more together.
Thanks again!

What do you think about this one in B&W?

Looks amazing! B&W definelly adds more dramatic feel to it. The only thing I could say if there was more contrast of white and dark grey in the clouds along with some highlights to intensify the sky

I like this constellation of grey and green! awesome shoot

Thank you Simon!

It feels like a beautiful spring day bringing in a thunderstorm. I feel like I'm there. The wind whipping over my shoulders as the storm rolls in. I love storms so I love the shot!

Thank you Jacob! You're pretty on point! It was in the fall instead of a spring day :) Rain was indeed coming in and it was indeed windy!

It's lovely, but it's pretty obvious this image has been manipulated. I prefer a more subtle approach.

It's a single photo and I only used LR for this shot. No manipulation

You wrote above, "I did used some graduated filters and some adjustmant brushes." That's what I mean by manipulation. The darkness of the sky looks uneven and exaggerated. And, it looks like the darkening effect of the graduated filter(s) spilled over onto the mountain peaks.

My biggest problem with this picture is that it looks much to much like an Albert Bierstadt painting. Too grandiose and done too many times. Yours is nice, but contains within it the makings of some unique great pictures. Explore the scene, change the lens and zoom in and out you will find the shot!
