Andrew Smith's picture

Mountain Photography

I know that there is either a love or a hate for HDR photos, but these are 2 of the favorite ones that I have done. They are both from my area in North Georgia. Do they look too over processed? I try not to have the saturation so high that it's ridiculous.

I my opinion, they dont look over processed. But what I miss is at point of interest. I see the landscape, but it's like it's missing something. The second one is much more interesting, than the first. The lake/lakes and the sunset helps creating a much more interesting shoot. But one thing, I think, you have to fix on the second picture, is the tilted horizon, unless it's on purpose?

Hope it makes sense :-)

Honestly, I never noticed that, but you're right. I do need to level the horizon to be even. Thanks!

Perhaps it's due to the export settings, but I see some banding in the sky in the first image, but think the colors are great!
I strongly agree with K L's comment that the second image provides a clearer subject. One think to look out for when blending HDR / processing images is that in reality, the light reflected by a body of water can rarely be brighter than the light from the source (sky in this case). While in this case you cannot see the part of the sky that is reflected by the closest part of the water, it looks somewhat unnaturally bright to my eyes.

Those are some very good points thank you!
