Columbia River Gorge in Trouble :(

Its tough to see the images this week of the Gorge completely engulfed in flames after a careless teenager set off fireworks on the Eagle Creek Trail, sparking the blaze. I hope the damage won't completely ruin this gem in the PNW, and that any destruction will quickly re-grow. Here is a shot of Fairy Falls on the Multnomah-Wahkeena hike taken back in May during the spring run off. I have some amazing memories from this trip, and I can't imagine what these once iconic scenes will look like once the fire is controlled and the smoke clears...

Hi Chris, agree with your sentiments. When we experienced the infamous "Black Saturday" fires here in Victoria (AUS) some years back, an area up behind Marysville was wiped out. One spot, Taggerty Cascades, was a landscape photographers delight. It will take a couple of generations before it recovers to its original glory.

I travelled there from Canada back in May, and I'm glad I did. This is a bucket list location for many photographers, and its amazing how quickly it can all disappear. I can't begin to fathom how long it will take to recover.

Speaking of bucket lists...AUS is definitely on my list, and hope to visit your neck of the woods in the near future!

Was really hoping to head out there in summer of 2018 but now i am not so sure if i will make the cross-country trip. May still be worth it but nonetheless is a shame

an amazing shot

Broke my heart to see that news. I moved from Oregon to New York back in February. Kinda hoped I'd get back that way someday to shoot the Gorge... now that my skills are better. Sigh! Nope.

Haven't seen many photos post-fire so I'm still hopeful it's not as bad as ppl have made it out to be. Spectacular area nevertheless and I hope to return as well someday!

I'm kind of afraid to go looking for post-fire images.
