Implied Sunset

I shot this a couple days ago at Haystack Rock in Oregon. Dealing with the incoming tide to give me some line streaks was an interesting challenge. With that being said, I love the look of this image and the almost flaring on the left hand side. My question is that since it's obviously a sunset and it being implied, would I have been better off to shoot a pano to the left and have the actual sun in the image to make it stronger? Or is this a strong enough shot as is without it? I would normally have shot the sun, but the cold water filling my boots kind of made my brain go to mush. I've been going back and forth on whether I need the sun in the shot (which I obviously can't get at this point...more for future reference in shooting).

I guess you have used a ND filter? Unfortunately it destroys the top of the big rock. I miss some details here. I feel like the cold part of the image (the right side) takes over the warm part. The cold part is too heavy. So it might have helped if you made it as a pano with some extra shots towards the sunset. It would balance cold and warm nicely.

Personally I like the color contrast between the warmth of the implied sunset and the cool of the shadow. There is just enough detail in the shaded left side of the rock to get a feel for its texture. I like it as is!

I am drawn to this image. Nice work Peter.
