The Northern beaches of Sydney has a dozen or so rock pools. Many of which are great for graphical elements in a composition. I’m debating which aspect ratio works best for this image. The first image is the native 2:3 ratio from the camera and the second is a 4:5 crop. Which do you prefer? I’m going for a dramatic mood conveying the movement of the ocean. Thanks
Nate
Definitely prefer the 2:3
Hi! I like the 2:3 ratio as you can have a stronger leading line from the left to,the center, making the picture more balanced.
Cheers!
Thanks for your comments guys. The other difference between the two ratios is that with the 2:3 has the edge of the pool cebtered while the crop has it off centered.
Any further input would be appreciated. On the crop as well as the balance and mood of the image
From the two I prefer 2:3 but I would probably crop some sky. Hmm. Maybe not.
2:3
The 2:3 is definitely my favorite. I like the contrast between the warm and cold parts of the image. Great job on keeping the highlights in check without overdoing the light/dark balance. Great photo.
I am probably the only one who prefers the 4:5 :) Reasons:
- in the 2:3 I don't like those rocks that hare only partially in frame
- in the 4:5 I actually found myself looking at the pool, while in the 2:3 it feels like the rocks in the background are the main subject.
Great feedback guys. Thanks! It’s very interesting to see how different people’s eyes move through the frame
2:3 for the win. The 4:5 feels to heavy in the bottom.
4:5
but with a different orientation
a little bit "to the right"
cutting left and not so much on the right
