Misty Hike in the Yeongnam Alps

Really new to photography, would appreciate any feedback/criticism. Really trying to focus on composition and scouting the right areas, still need a lot of practice. This was on a hike in the Yeongnam Alps, South Korea. The editing was inspired by Dylan Furst.

Seems like a location that has potential. As for the image ... at the least you needed to have a strong foreground or an element leading into a strong background. Not having any significant contrast of light and/or colour anywhere doesn't help either. Hope that's ok to say. Cheers and have fun with it.

Yeah I agree with the foreground, I wasn't really sure what to do with it. I tried cropping it up to where the fence began but I didn't really like that either. Definitely still have a lot of work to do, thanks for the feedback

It's very dark and I don't know if that's intentional or just edited on a laptop perhaps, which are not ideal and can lead to dark images as I have found with my own images. I like the fence line being highlighted and meandering into the shot and also like the misty backdrop but I have to look hard to be able to see it all.

I was going for a dark image but perhaps this is too dark. Why do laptops lead to dark images?

I'm no expert but my understanding is that it's because they are heavily back lit / very bright so you tend to process your image based on that but when viewed on a calibrated monitor or print out an image it then appears darker because of the lower / lack of back lighting. Although if people view on a bright screen eg. Phone or ipad etc. with high brightness it may look ok.

Hmm didn't know that, thanks for the heads up I appreciate it

You're welcome. Like I said, I'm no expert so it may be worth researching online for yourself but when I look back at my old images now which were processed on a laptop they are often much darker than I intended, even after I was kind of aware of it and tried to make them a bit brighter during processing.

I prefer this in black and white and lightened up a bit. Also I tried warming it a bit also.Great misty look and I like the wires on the fence being lit up.

Personally I think the black and white takes away from the mood. I was going for a sorta cold, dark, wet feel. I can definitely see why you'd disagree though. Appreciate the feedback!

Yes I think you have captured the cold dark wet feel well. The black and white treatment does not make it look so foreboding.
