Kevin Teerlynck's picture

the lake of legends (cc appreciated)

It's not at all easy to find dark sites in Belgium and even at the darkest spots, you'll get some light pollution. But in this case i think that it adds a nice color contrast and feel to the overall image. We also got very lucky with the low fog that appeared above the lake, just in time before the milky way was positioned right were we wanted it to be.

There's also a story about this lake which talks about the mysterious fog that appears at night and sometimes swallows travellers who will never find their way back home in the dense fog. I was fortunate enough to see the fog rising before my own eyes. (Quite fascinating and even a little creepy when all of a sudden the cold kicked in...) I did also manage to get back home to edit some pictures ;)

this is a great photo! it looks more natural than most MW shots that I've seen lately du to the fact that you did get light pollution and it made a beautiful effect. great job!

thanks for your feedback Joseph. It is indeed not the most common milky way shot found on the net. I was actually surprised to have so much detail even with all the light pollution

Oh man this is beautiful. The colors and the clarity you have here is incredible - light pollution be damned. Nice capture!

Glad you like it to Mike. i also love the colors in this scene, looks a bit like twilight

I'm planning my first MW trip in a couple of weeks! This image only heightens my excitement for the trip!

Glad it does Robert :) Have fun on your trip! Where are you going?

Amazing photo man! Really surprised by the lack or at least not annoying light polution! Where in Belgium is this?

Thanks a lot Jurre Jan! I was surprised myself, the color of the light pollution here was actually quite nice and dimmed. The lake is hidden somewhere deep in the forest in the south of Belgium and not known by the big public yet. If you don't mind, i would like it to stay that way ;-)

No problem, I was just curious ;)
