water on the rocks

kids are all back in school so i took the morning to get out for some long exposure practice. felt good to get wet and dirty for a change and not clean up after my 4 children. hope you like the result as usual please give me the harsh version its the only way to learn.

Nice intimate shots. In the LE shot I might try to burn in around that yellow leaf, it's pulling attention away from the water. Really like that soft S curve in the moving water.

Can't tell where my focus should be in the 2nd shot as much. I think there's some potential with the rocks, water and warm yellow leaves, but might need a different composition.

awesome thanks for the advice!!

Hi Joseph. The top one does not do a lot for me as I think there is too much blur. It might be ok as a black and white shot to give it an abstract feel. Not enough sharp areas of focus to juxtapose against the blur. When you look at blurry waterfall shots the water is nice and creamy but the frame of rocks etc is usually sharp. In the bottom one I wouldn't necessarily try for a blur shot but concentrate on getting sharp shots of what's there. Colors are good. You could even try a polarising filter to be able to see past reflection of the water and pebbles etc under the water. The polariser will enable you in shallow water to see and record what's under the water. You may already know that but others may not.

yes i was using the polarized lens with my 6stop-nd i like macro and close up photography so i tried that route with water i believe you are correct i may need more subject matter and I'm trying to get used to focusing in live view i wish i had a 60" monitor on hand so i could see what the hell is going on. as for now i will keep practicing for my first 4 star shot

Keep up the good work Joseph. The more we shoot the more we learn.

yes sir!!!!! thank you!!

Joseph, pictures show nothing + blurry quality. try to find composition before you shoot. delete all the pictures if you see even a smallest flaw.

thanks these are the things i need to hear!!!!! i do need to work on composition this was a settings test to see the stop, time, iso. as i am learning the more in depth way to shoot i will adjust appropriately. i spent too much time behind a point n shoot to realize the true depth of what a photographer goes through but I'm enjoying the experience.
