Diane Marie's picture

Okay guys, hoping I got a 3 star this time! :)

You guys have been awesome at helping me with my landscape photos. I’m pretty happy with this one, but I know you all will see things I missed. I did change up the feel a lot in editing, but hope it worked. Anxious to hear your thoughts.

Here’s the original.

What's the subject of photo ? And why it's so under exposed the original picture ?

I think some work is still needed. It looks like the person is looking down, it would have worked better if she was looking out over the water. In terms of color grading, I think it is a bit too much. The sky in the upper right is too saturated, and the foreground colours has too much yellow/orange I feel.
Perhaps a bit lower and tigher and with the person sitting on the log at the water's edge or something like that would work better?

I think you're on the right path. As stated above, I think the processing went a little overboard (the blue in the top right is over-saturated, but we've all been there, so don't panic). It has an interesting look to it, in terms a style, so if you're looking to develop a kind of "look" to your images, it's good to see you're playing around with your sliders. The main problem is the subject and composition. Usually people are used for things like scale, or as the subject itself, but here, it just seems like a snapshot with someone standing in front not doing anything in particular.

Keep trying new compositions and playing with your editing software so you can learn how to use it without overdoing it.

Hope that helps!

It's a nice photo Diane but I think it would work better if the girl were a bit closer to the water and captured full length from where you shot it.I have taken a similar shot with a girl with red hair by the water so I know that this was an appealing scene. Just a little work that's all.

I like the color balance, colors are lovely. I would ask yourself what important features of your crop is. I think you wanted the girl and the water. If so, then I would have taken her to the water, giving her some space around her. (taking out the tree in front of her). Maybe taken out the tree to the top left. The lower right is also too dark. Remember to not just take one shot, particularly when people are involved.
