you should have done a shot metered at the foreground and the sunlight so you could have merged them in post to see the landscape better i like what you were going for

I think they both need a bit more saturation.The bottom one I think has too much grass in the foreground.In Australia it looks much like the habitat of the Australian Bittern or similar birds.Would be good to capture one hanging off the reeds silhouetted in the sunrise or sunset.Not much to ask. Tongue in cheek.
I think you have the right idea with the top picture. Personally I would try to get a shot without the tree on the left, because it's not really adding to the composition. I think you could do something interesting with the trees on the other side of the river with the reflection, so it's definitely a spot worth returning to.
