I wanted to see how my 50 year old Canon FD 800mm f/5.6 s.s.c. would handle photographing both the Sun and the Moon.

I think the bottom one looks better!
This one is much better, the only thing is that when you put the saturation up there is a lot of distracting leaves in between the rocks. You could edit them out in photoshop.
yeah i didn't like the shot enough to go through the hassle i actually just deleted it from my portfolio i will revisit the location with a different viewpoint
I would do the same. I didn't know how easy it would be to go there again.
