Dolomite Mountains

Last month I visited the Dolomite mountains in Italy and took some very nice images! I really love the mountains and after visiting the Swiss alps several times the Dolomites in Italy were a welcome change! I can recommend it highly.

On the first and third images, be careful and go easier on the polariser, it gives that "fake" look in the sky when you're high in the mountains like that, it's unnatural.

Thanks for the comment! On the third image I only used a grad ND filter but perhaps I did a little to much post processing.

Ah ok, out of curiosity is it too much clarity in Lightroom that gives it that look ?

I did use some clarity and dehaze. It is up to you if it was to much or not :)

Although I like these images, the post processing has altered these images which make them seem "fake" as nick suggested. My first impression is that these images are from a postcard stock within an advertising agency.

Thanks for your feedback! This is one of the unedited images. I cropped, balanced the exposure in the lower left corner and used clarity and dehaze to lift contrast. I think that in this case dehazing (to much) is to blame for the 'fake' look since some haze is to be expected.

Better. One thing about me, I hate post processing of images.. So if anyone wants to impress me.. best show me the real deal. Matter of fact just created a "real" community based on zero processing of images. people just need to stop trying to use these programs as they have no barring on your real picture which in this case (above) looks far better to me in my opinion. Stay real.

I do often use a polarizer and/or other filters, as well as some post processing. It gives me more creative possibilities. For me it is more about the result and I don't mind using the tools that are at my disposal. But to each his own :)

I agree, I tend to use filters myself. But this all narrows down to what lens you're using. as some glass quality is far better than others. So you're telling me that you're using the new R? according to your profile..

These were shot on my old Canon 60D with a EF-S 15-85mm lens. I upgraded my camera to the R only last week. I did not have the time to do much shooting but can't wait to put it to the test. I live in The Netherlands so it could be a while before I'm in the mountains again...

Are you sure this one is unedited with no polariser ? Coz the sky looks greyish, and there's some vignetting. Bad UV filter maybe ? Or is it your lens ? I use a lot of dehazing, and it usually doesn't produce results like this, it tends to oversaturate.

I used a LEE soft grad ND filter, so maybe the vignetting is from the filter holder in combination with the lens. If you think of using filters as editing than yes it was edited, but not post processed in lightroom.

Nice work Bas, I think these are gorgeous. Would love to see a B&W version of the first one, I think it would turn out nicely.

Thank you! Maybe I will try a b/w conversion when I have some more time :)
