I thought it would be fun to share this old favourite. This was probably one of the first good shots I ever took. Taken around ten years ago now, at the well known spot beside the River Coupall in Glen Etive (Scotland). Haven't been back since as it's now so busy and I prefer to work away from other photographers.
I hardly ever shoot in portrait orientation these days, maybe I should think about playing around more next time I'm out.
Thoughts and comments welcomed :)
Many years ago (when photos emerged in dark rooms instead of on a screen I shot almost exclusively in portrait. Most of the work was for publication and they have pages oriented for portrait format. Now that photos emerge on screens which have landscape formate most images are in that view. I do believe may conception of images has changed as well. I think and imagine in landscape and not portrait today.
Yes I was thinking about mentioning how I do consciously shoot landscape format with screens in mind. It's funny how many people are going back to portrait now due to things like Instagram with phone screens in mind. Maybe should just shoot square...
Oh, where did I put that Hasselblad 500C?
Hello David,
Thanks for your post.
I do think the composition is good.
But the tree on left hides the hill and induces a kind of unequilibrium with the central tree.
Hope to be useful,
David
