Being only a 30 minute drive from Lake Tahoe I am lucky to have such amazing views so close to home. I am reminded every time I visit just how beautiful this area of the world is. When I started my drive up the mountains, I noticed there was not a cloud in the sky. I had already committed to spending the evening shooting some landscapes. So i said to myself that if there are in fact no clouds then I will simply stay longer and shoot the milky way. I had a backup plan, but when I got there i realized it was no longer necessary. The clouds were there and the sunset presented itself in spectacular fashion. Everyone on the beach was in awe of the scene. The colors were so vibrant and in a flash was all but gone. I decided since I was already out there why not wait a little longer to see what happens and sure enough about an hour after sunset the Milky Way was in plain sight. I set my equipment and took shots of the night sky as well. Rarely do I ever get two completely different scenes in the exact same spot but here we are.
Hi Aaron,
Lucky you. Beautiful location and really nice photographs. IMHO, the foreground (water) in the milky way shot is more exposed than it should be. Maybe cutting back on that a bit would lay more emphasis on the sky. Just my 2 cents.

I love the beautiful sky. Fantastic clouds and color. The shadows in the foreground are crushed and no detail at all. Maybe you can bracket next time to get the full detail of the scene.
