massive expectations... no results

how many of you have spent the time to get up early and take a 2hr drive to a beautiful location? you are under time restraint so you do all your homework get set take off.... and come back empty handed ...yeah that was me today up at 3:45a.m. out the door by 4a.m. at location by 6a.m. ....everything destroyed from a massive winter storm.
so 5 hrs goes by. 4 spent driving 1 spent trying to find something epic and nothing absolutely nothing......
luckily i went out saturday you can critique those
also autumn is over trees are bare no snow yet .....what to shoot?.... cities and bridges?

Welcome to my world ;-) There is a reason I got a telescope, because what we've had plenty of this year was clear skies. Well, up until I got the telescope, ever since then sky's been overcast. But it doesn't rain, because in that case I could shoot rivers, streams, waterfalls and heaven forbid I get that opportunity.

I call it "The Truman Show".

its so damn aggravating i was super excited i was going to meet up with Dan Zafra https://fstoppers.com/profile/danzafra at his request for the location he ended up getting a flat tire in transit and got there an hour after i left he found the falls and mentioned they had a ton of debris i guess my falls pics will have to wait till spring

Actually many people purposely go out in storms to get this glossy forest shots and cloudy skies. It is the low white-out clouds that are a wipe-out for me. Next time this happens to you, maybe closeup, detail images?

thats what i usually do the situation itself this morning was just horrible i just had piss poor planning it was kinda spur of the moment and i did not have prior knowledge of the area

Yeah, can't just go to a new location and expect to return with great shots unfortunately. On the flipside, driving for 2 hours just for scouting isn't something to look forward to either.

nope i was cursing the whole way home hahaha

Yes I can sympathize. I live in California and can't go outside because of the smoke. I also have surgery Thursday. Thought I could at least put my mind off it by shooting but the air quality is just awful, but at least im not one of the unfortunate that has just lost their home.

Have been watching the news about the fires from Australia. We have the same problems here in the summer and unfortunately many are deliberately lit. There was a whole town wiped out in Australia a few tears ago.You have eucalyptis trees in california also which arebour native rees. Unfortunatelt they go up like a bomb.Hope your op goes well.

We have had about 5 years of drought with very little rain in winter. On top of that there is sudden oak death and black beetle. Yosemite has many fires in summer now due to the death of many trees due to black beetle. It seems that we have yet another dry winter ahead, although it is hard nowdays to predict weather anywhere.

Thanks Loretta for this extra info. Drought is a constant problem depending on where you are in Australia. Some places never have a problem but we live in the driest state in a very dry country on average. few years back we were on water restriction usage here with very strict rules on what we could do re home watering etc. We have several rainwater tanks and solar power here to help deal with the ups and owns.

The scary thing is if this happens in places that have never been anywhere close to a drought. At this time of year it usually rains about every other day. This year we can consider ourselves lucky if we get 1 hour's rain in a week.

It is spring here at moment and I can see a potential storm approaching here at present on the radar. Our summer is from dec-feb when we are most vulnerable. In the North of Australia it is monsoonal where they are vulnerable to cyclones mainly. They only have the wet and dry season.

5 years? Blimey! First time I've heard about that. Hope it's not going to be like that over here, summer 2018 keeps dragging on.

yeah my brother lives outside San Fran past few years have been very scary

Sorry to hear of your mis-adventure Joseph. These photos are ok and will remind you of the day later on.

thanks Geoff yeah it was an uninspired weekend but the pros say if you get 1 keeper a month your doing well so I'm not getting to down on myself

Joseph, it's really great photos,) Autumn is my favorite season when I go to the forest I don't wanna come back home.

thanks Tommy same here
