The Plunge

This is part of the Linville River right before it plunges over 90 feet down Linville Falls. Any thoughts on the editing of this photo?

Seeing how no one has responded to you, I'll be the first. stop relying on the timed exposer as this isn't helping the composure of the image. Sure the stream looks great.. the there's no separation between the rocks and the valley below. In this instance, a better lens with the correct aperture would have offers a bokeh background with would have cleared up the foreground background separation. Which leaves the one element which the camera hasn't picked up.. the main subject. if the subject was the rocks.. then I would crop this into several small images based on how the image flows. The idea is to create a flow of natural and unnatural light, shadows or shaded areas. Again, if a filter was used.. then you're using the wrong filter as it's not highlighting the good within the image.

Thanks! That’s actually really helpful. When I was editing it I was thinking the same thing that there was no separation b/w foreground and background and I couldn’t figure out what I should have done different . Shooting landscapes i often do not think about shooting at f/2.8 or f/4 but that probably would’ve made a world of difference with this shot. I never even thought about cropping it in to smaller images either, which also sounds like a good idea. I did use a 6stop nd to get the smooth water. Thanks again, good stuff!
