For me, the processing is fine, but I'm not a huge fan of the railing in the foreground because it's blocking the view of the lake below and makes me feel like the view is blocked off.
have to agree with Jordan on this shot has nice mood and processing but if you have a railing in the way find a way to get rid of it before you shoot ...im assuming you did this for foreground elements and the trees but your shot is it the dynamic of the lake mountains and sky. if you have trouble incorporating all of what you want in the scene take a panorama and stick it you will come out with a better result in the end
I think its a really good image, the processing is good. I actually like the railing but only if the image is used for "look at the view from our balcony" or "have a drink and take in the view from our terrace".
If the sole subject is the lake and mountains then i agree with lose the railing.
About the post-production. I think it's a little too desaturated for my taste (personal preference), because I would have liked to see the blue of the water. So I would probably dual-tone this image a bit to bring out some blue in the water and some gold in the sky.
About the composition. The location is great, but as others have mentioned, I think the balcony railing is a little too intrusive. I would have stepped closer to the edge, and still kept a portrait aspect ratio.
First I like the processing. I have seen this color and misty scene in real life many times. I like having the rail in the foreground but perhaps getting closer and looking slightly more down would have reduce the amount of rail. Realize I am saying this for myself as much as you. I am trying to learn from the critiques even when it is not my photo.
You were right. I chose the Railing as a foreground element.
I got no picture without. Just one from a higher position where i can crop the railing out and one horizontal with only on bar of the railing.

Do you have one without the fence?

Hi Malte,

Do you think these compositions are better?
