I shot this image just as I found it along the shore. It was shot on a Nikon D500, 24-120mm 1:4 (48mm), f/9, ISO 50 with a one second exposure on a tripod with a 10 second timer. It was a bright sunny day and the image was in the shade of the trees. The highlights in the water are a bit blue from the reflection of the sky.
Any suggestions to improve the image or shooting technique would be great.
Thanks - Roger
It's well exposed and in focus, and the shutter speed was put to good use to maximize the movement.
The main problems for me are the light and composition.
I'll start with the light. It just seems a little flat, possibly because it is in the shade. Some kind of light hitting the subject might have help make it stand out a little more
As for the composition, I feel like there's a little too much water, and the angle makes the stack of rocks feel small. I think a lower composition could have helped make it look taller. It might also be a good idea to have it taking up more of the frame, as it is the subject. Furthermore, it's a good to have anything that takes up a lot of the frame add something to the photo, but the patch of land at the bottom right doesn't really do that for me.
I hope that helps.
Jordan - Thank you for the knowledge and your suggestions. Greatly appreciated!
