cold eerie wood edit...

want to know if this edit was successful or poor in capturing the cold eerie feeling of coming winter
first one is the edit the second is the raw file i had to work with

added a third with some more attention to highlighting the sapling from the blue background

I like the atmosphere in the background, but it is taking away from your subject a little bit. It might be worth trying to make the colours on the small tree in the foreground pop a little more.

Other than that, it's a nice intimate landscape shot. Well done.

thanks jordan i was trying to make the tree pop but those little tiny leaves leaves were killing me i wonder if i use selective color if i could draw it out more ill give it another shot

looking at it now i wish i had lighting equipment to illuminate the sapling instaed of it almost being backlit

check the third one i used selective color to adjust

Much better. My only problem is the tree cutting in on the left, I think taking a step further to the left could have cleaned up the composition a little. But the third one is a big improvement. Well done.

Guess it was not so easy to isolate that little tree.
With a bluish background, the colors have become complementary, which is another plus.
Otherwise a great work, I like it.

the isolation process was a struggle for sure thanks Radisa

The main issue for me Jospeh is that the leaves of the tree in the foreground really do not stand out against the background. It's not as bad with the last one but there are too many thin vertical lines all competing and merging into one another. If the tree on the extreme left of the image is thick enough, you could perhaps have put that behind the little tree to bring out the leaves more easily. Or, move way back and zoom in tight with an extreme depth of field to make it pop.

Otherwise, for that cold eerie feeling you're after, you don't necessarily need that little tree. A long lens shot through the trees can do that very well or use blank space like a clearing covered with leaves like you have in your foreground.

excellent considerations and thoughts much appreciated David i didn't think the original shot had anything going for it when i got home but i tried to make it into something but your absolutely right there is nothing to make the smaller tree stand out unfortunate for this image but aa learning experience for the future
