There was some really heavy fog around town earlier this week so I took off to Skyline to see what I could find. But the open spaces were all well above the fog and bathed in clear blue winter skies! Not my favorite ; ) But I went for a short hike anyway and found some detail shots with nice backlight and morning dew. Only this one of a few bare branches was worth processing though.
Probably not everyones cup of tea, but I like shots like this because they focus your attention on a very few key details. In a series or an album they great as contextual filler to enhance the story behind other images.
They key to this shot was back lighting, shallow DOF, and a wet background that helped darken the brush and vegetation behind the branches. In retrospect, I should have spent more time looking for these shots at this location as there were a lot of back lit subjects to choose from.
The background color, and how it looked turned out very beautiful, it is a misfortune that all branches in the foreground could not be in the focus.
That was actually on purpose, I was experimenting with very shallow depth of field shots this morning. But yeah, it would have been nice to have stopped down a bit and got the main three branches all in focus.
I took this almost off hand, not really thinking about it being worth keeping. I wish now that'd actually focused on this type of shot for the morning and worked on a few compositions with this and some other backlit areas.
Interesting how the atmosphere is almost like being photographed underwater :)
Thanks. I processed to emphasize the cool wet feel of the morning. The original was actually quite a bit warmer in tone. Adding un processed raw to jpg for comparison:
Excellent processing...
