Artem Gruzdev's picture

I need a critique!

Hi!
I did this shoot from my previous trip to Istanbul. I did all post-processing I wanted to do. Now, I need a critique, comments, etc. What can I improve here?

I usually choose a late blue hour during a photo shoot in the city. Maybe a little grainy in the sky, slightly tilted to the left and too narrow framing in the right part of the photo. It's a nice picture and a great location for many more good images.

finding the right exposure must have been rough on this one i agree with Radisa on the graininess what iso were you shooting at? i believe the look of the shifted axis is actually an optical illusion from the ellipse of the fountain and wide angle lens does have some stretching i would definitely shoot this a few more times and yes at different hours if possible

Joseph, the reference to my statement on the crooked horizon was minarets (verticals) in the middle of the photograph.

ahh that makes sense

It was shooted with iso 100, but some grain can be here because of increasing detalisation with high-pass filter.

Improve? Try to flip horizontal. Then more lights on sky!

I am not a fan of flipping images, where there are recognizable subjects of any origin, because it would distort reality. In this case increasing the level of brightness in the dark partitions require multiple exposure blending and assume that Artem is already done it on some own way to a certain extent.

Yes, some exposure blending is already here, but I tried to create evening-night picture and If i try to increase the brightness of the sky, it turns to day-evening photo with some elements of night photo, I suppose.

I'm a pedant for verticals, and the convergence of the right hand tower bothers me - no biggie, that's just me. Also, I'd love to see all of the fountain and also see it have more breathing space in the foreground; perhaps move it down so there's less sky at the top and more foreground.

It's a pretty cool image anyway :)

I've done my best to fix the verticals of minarets
