Lonely rocks

This picture was taken in an abandoned quarry that turned into a lake that has this stunning emerald-teal water.

The water is that gorgeous color because of the minerals in the surrounding rocks, and due to chemical dumpings back when the quarry was active.

That day the light was awful. It was overcast and super flat. As such I went there with the intention of photographing more intimate landscape pictures.
When I came across those rocks I knew that a minimalistic composition would look great!

I would love to hear your thoughts to learn more and keep Improving!

I like the minimalist approach. I think the biggest problem for me is the angle. It seems like it was taken from a standing position, which is making it lose some depth.

When it comes to minimalist shots like this every detail is important, including the choice of the shooting angle. I think a little lower might have helped or the alternative is to shoot top down.

I do like the reflection at the top, but they seem to be fighting with the simplicity of the image, so I think you could do without them, if it is a minimalist look you’re going for.

I do like the simplicity of this image (a bit of a minimalist myself). I find the contrast between the foreground and teal waters pleasing.

I also like the angle you have used, but understand this is subjective. The rock is perfectly positioned in a strong point of the frame with the angle acting as a lead-in.
I do agree that the tree reflection - this acts somewhat as a frame and counterbalances the visual weight of the rock.

As you indicated the light was flat, which actually probably helps the image as it would be too contrasty otherwise.

As for suggestions, unless you want to keep this as a pure documentary I would try giving this a bit more pop - try increasing the contrast/clarity very slightly (don't overdo!) and perhaps up the saturation of the teal (or contrast/vibrancy in general?).

This is a fine image and worth playing with to get feel that YOU feel suits your own taste.
