Please Help With This Picture

Please critique this picture. I used an A6000/Sigma 19mmf2.8. I did a little post shop processing in Lightroom. Mainly to bring out the colors. I sincerely appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Vaughan K.

Nice autumnal colors and reflections. For me, the problem is that at a fairly large distance you have two trees that attract attention, so that the view bounces from one to the other (maybe it acts as a balance, but in this case it does not work like that IMO), plus at the left end of image there is a bright gap between the trees that draws attention. I would not know how you process it, there is a bit of strange sharpness (contrast) as with the excessive use of the clarity slider.
Keep it up with learning and practice.

A vertical orientation could possibly help here making it equally about sky, trees & water. I am left wanting some type of foreground element/point of interest and the reflections don't quite provide that.

You did capture nice light on the trees, hopefully an area you can revisit and work through composition.

To me two main points :
- the sky does not bring anything in the phpotography. It could have played a role by being reflected into the lake. But it's not the case.
- the second point concerns the reflection. I don't kow when you got this picture. But, early in the morning or at dawn, waters are softer with less wind. Then, thanks to a long exposure taken at the right moment of the day, you may obtain a better reflection effect to make the photography more graphical, less neutral.

Hope i could be helpful,

David

Thanks for the pointers. All good. I will re-edit and apply your recommendations.

CC: I agree with other comments, plus the quality of the light could be better. Middle of the day, white, top down lighting is pretty crummy. And as Radisa mentioned, you need something to be the subject.

My advice for situations like this to pull out a longer lens (is anyone surprised) and simplify the landscape. The two autumn trees are the stars, so I would have focused more on them rather than the green ones around them.

I hope that helps!
