I think the concept is well worth exploring. I would consider slightly different positions between some of the pictures, as the sizes and shapes of the moons determines the line that eyes follow them. Right now I have a feeling that between 3 & 6 "o'clock" (these three super thin white crescents) is an almost straight line, which disrupts the spiral flow to me. Also, I would consider placing the second biggest moon slightly outside of its position (towards 4 o'clock). Only few pixels, just to give it more breathing room.
Feel free to disagree - maybe I've missed something in your placing process. Anyway - I like your concept really much. :)

lol somebody had some time on there hands today. i would have set it up like the old game centipede with a little spaceship shooting up at it
