Shooting under a full moon

I just got back from a trip where the goal was to shoot sand dunes and the surrounding area under a full moon. While I was up there I found it was difficult to nail the settings on the camera because it felt silumtaniously very light and dark outside. Does anyone have any tips for shooting in those conditions?

I had the camera set to spot metering, so I was trying to expose for the dune/areas with moonlight. I thought I nailed the exposures, reviewing them in the LCD they looked good, and it wasn't until I got them home that I realized most were massively underexposed. Anyhow, here's two that I think came out.

Nice examples Mike!
Yes. that mountain range in the distance is problematic.
Long exposure in Bulb mode can be a solution, but it also brings some unpleasant effects in the technical sense, so now some photographers are doing time blending. They use the blue hour shots for the foreground, and then they are waiting for the night sky.

Interesting, I have heard of time blending, definitely something I'll try next time I go out. Thanks for the advice!
