Midnight at an old tarn

This photo was taken in an area rich of small ponds close to midnight during a misty summer night. I had to take one short exposure for the moon and one much longer to reveal some detail in the dark landscape

Beautiful! Very moody, well done.

Thanks a lot Mike - happy you liked it!

Wow. Awesome.

Thanks Thomas!

I feel cold just looking at it. If that was your intention you've succeeded. Have you experimented with shifting the colour balance or even black and white conversion might be rewarding.
Love the feel of the shot

Thanks for your comment Peter! Maybe the image looks colder than it was. I did play around with color balance a bit and the image is the result of that. In fact I also tried BW but I did not like that for some reason.

Love it! Wonderful mood, helped by keeping it sombre in tone. Composition is good as well, which always helps. For me, B&W would detract because the blue adds to the sense of chill, or at least coolness.

Thanks Chris. Regarding BW I agree - I tried but did not like it so much

Beautiful image Johan. I'm curious about the technique - is that where the moon was? I'm surprised/impressed that you've managed to avoid a giant halo around it in the long exposure.

The moon was there but as I wrote in the description I had to take two different exposures: one very short for the moon and then a long for the landscape. After I blended the two where most of the sky has the very short exposure.

where's Yoda? this is a really nice capture I'm sure it was difficult in that lighting situation everything came together for you on this one

Thanks! Yes lighting was difficult so I made two exposures: one for the moon and another for the landscape and blended them together.

I love this magnificent image. It is well composed ad wonderfully lit - great job with the exposures Johan.
The mist rising off the tarn adds both mood and mystery. I wouldn't change a thing.

Just curious about white balance - how did you have it set (auto?) and how did you adjust in post?

Thanks a lot for your kind comment Alan! I always use auto WB and in this case I increased the blue and a little green tint.
