Marcus Sapir's picture

I call this one Dream Fishing

This is Palmahim Beach in Israel at sunset. This taken in one shot with a neutral density filter. And a little dodging and burning. CC welcome

Hi Marcus, it's a nice image, but I don't see the point of dodging the grass in the foreground, there's clearly no light hitting that spot from the position of the sun. It distracts from the person on the left that I didn't even notice at first.

I like the exposure of the water, but I can't help but feel that there's too much going on within the frame. You've got the clouds on top, with a person in the middle on the left and rock on the right, then you have the grass under than, then even more rocks on the bottom right. Using layers is OK, but there needs to be some kind of cohesion among them. The saturation is also causing to to look a little overdone.

You clearly have an eye for interesting scenes, but I'd recommend trying to simplify things. Often in photography, less is more.

I hope that didn't come across as too harsh.

Not at all brother. I was thinking something similar.

Hi Marcus, this is a very vibrant image with a lot going on. if this was really taken in one shot you have done a great job of preventing motion blur in the clouds - perhaps a wind-free day?
With your exposure choice you also have a nice silkiness in the water

My initial reaction is that my eye is drawn to and anchored on the bright green area of rock. Not only do find this a bit bright but considering it is back-lit it seems unnatural. I think toning down color and exposure with perhaps a highlight at the top would help

Other than that this seems to be an image of contradiction - you have a strong and saturated sky balanced by silky-smooth water. For me that causes discord - it's almost like you have two separate half's of the image competing against one-another (accentuated by the position of the horizon).

For possible improvement I would suggest reworking the green rock, lessening contrast and saturation in the sky (perhaps bring up shadows/blacks).
Here's a really quick/rough edit that you can use as a comparison, but really any changes should match your own preferences.

Wow man I like it. Thank you.

this is nice a bit over saturated for my taste but the colors are nice. exposure time looks good, i may have gone for the sunstar but im not sure what nd filter you were using and if you would have been able to get it in a single exposure. not sure if the oval vignette is completely needed might be able to get away with a single soft grad filter in post as you lose a lot of nice detail in the bottom. and now that i just read Nick B's comment he is right the green is very bright for being in shadow.
