I caught this scene a few months ago, but never really paid attention to this particular photo set until today. This was one of the photos I used to practice a few tips and tricks I picked up in Peter McKinnon's lightroom tutorials (I've been a bit under the weather, so lightroom and youtube have been my closest friends).
As always, cc is appreciated!
Even inanimate objects have "faces" and a face should usually point into the frame. In this image specifically, the "face" of the aircraft is on the right side and pointing to the right, out of the frame. I would have composed the scene with the tail of the aircraft close to the left edge and with the nose closer to the middle. However, I think there is something to be said for a vertical/square crop here, something that accentuates the sky above the aircraft and ties them both together. I would probably also clone out the tie-downs and the wheel chock to make it look like the aircraft is ready to fly. Even better if the prop was turning with someone inside the cockpit.
My biggest grievance is the blown clouds in front of the sun. That's a real bear to deal with, but I would have sacrificed a little shadow detail to give myself a little more headroom to correct the highlights and hoped the camera had enough latitude to cover the difference. You might be able to pull some of the highlights back from a RAW edit.
