Minimalistic nature

Hi there ! What do you think, is this photos showing a bit too less or too much ?

No, Denis - just right, not too much nor too little! A pleasant change from all the images on this worthy forum whose authors want them to "pop". Reminds me of balloons. They only do so once, briefly. That's enough for Instagram, by all accounts, but maybe not for repeated viewing. I like the horizontal format version in your profile portfolio too.

Thank you, I appreciate you comment very much ! I'm just looking for any type of critic in order to see if I'm doing good or bad and what to do to improve myself. Thanks again !

Hi Denis. I love both minimal and moody images so this fits the bill. I think many minimal shots fail as there needs to be sufficient interest in the subject to carry the composition - this is not the case here as you provide interest in both trees and the ducks swimming by.

Like Chris I feel your landscape image of the same is a little stronger, with the use of negative space providing more balance to the composition.

Great work!

Thank you very much Alan !

Wow what a gorgeous shot! I love the simplicity, I think you are showing just enough for it to grab your attention, and hiding just enough for it to be mysterious. You nailed the look. Congrats!

Thank you very much. I think I could say that at the end I got the answer to my question with this photo.

love the warm to cool contrast i would just boost it a bit like this

I was thinking about that also and tried it but it looks a bit too much, it kills the whole mood of the scene. Thank you for the comment !

Agreed

Great photo, love the mood! My initial reaction is it's too much. I don't think the birds add anything to the photo. I'm getting distracted between focusing on the tree's reflection and the birds going through the center of the photo. I'd be curious to see what removing the birds would look like.

Or, maybe keep the birds and go with a tighter crop, centering the tree and removing most of the reflection.

Anyway, the color grading is awesome, the mist is cool. I do think there is a much stronger version of this photo in there somewhere.

Let us know what your final image looks like. Cheers!

Hey, sorry for the quite late reply and thank you very much for the comment. I have at least 20 different photos of this exact scene, with/without ducks, horizontal, vertical, etc., but at the end, my eyes stuck on this one. I'm still not quite sure if it's gonna be the final image, so I'll have to try all of your suggestions. Thank you again !

Hi Denis, I think this a great shot. It has a good balance across the frame and the use of the fog to reduce it to the base elements perfect. The only thing I would have done different is crop or raise the frame to lessen the lower third to give a line that my eye wants to follow. all in all I think this is a great shot. You got just enough to interest my eyes and minimal enough to keep focus on what you want me to see.

Thank you very much for the comment !

Agree with all above! Really well done. If this is your thing, I'd love to see you participate in the Minimalism, Abstract and Beyond Group too.

Thank you very much for the comment. I sure will !

Love it, very zen.
